We feature in the Good Pub Guide 2012 and 2013, where we are awarded with a Wine Award and Price Award.
We are also Cask Marque quality approved and a member of Greene King Head Brewer's Club, guaranteeing the quality of our real cask ales.
Having driven past the Horse and Jockey several times and seen the improved visual appearance take place my husband & I decided as living fairly local we should try the pub and see what it was like. There is a huge free car park at the rear of the pub. We did not make a reservation for dinner as it was very early in the evening and luckily for us were easily accommodated. We were very pleasantly surprised by the amount of space inside & outside. At the rear after you leave Car park there is an outdoor seating area, If you smoke I guess you would appreciate this as well as a fairly large outdoor seating area at the front of the building which is grassed & picket fenced so you can people watch and enjoy a good pint. The interior seating areas for eating/drinking are split between a possibly quieter area at the rear or within the main bar area, having now eaten here three times we actually prefer the bar area. We like the mix match of furniture & the character. On each occasion we have visited & eaten we have been warmly greeted by the staff on duty. They like to take your food order from the table you are sat at & will bring drinks over to save your food getting cold, nothing seems to much trouble. The menu choice is very good & the quality of the food & presentation is generally excellent, as are the portions. The only exception my husband would say is he did not rate the steak very highly but there are plenty of other dishes to choose from & it would certainly not put us off eating there again, so much so I have just made a reservation for four of us to eat there. All in all for us excellent location, excellent food, great pint of beer & pleasant staff. What more could you want!
Friendly traditional village local with real character, good value food and well chosen wines
Fourteen wines on the list, proving that you don't need a large wine list to offer interesting choices.
It's great to have our village pub back! Good food, good atmosphere.
A group of us were camping near by and arrived about 8:30pm on the Friday night. Some of us had some food which was awesome. Portion sizes were good and the specials were also good. Popped in in again for dinner on Saturday but they were too busy to feed us. Instead they suggested somewhere down the road and went out of their way to book us in there. Top marks all round.
